Assumptions

  • A full year of wages at one salary, taxed as withholding rather than as a settled return.
  • The federal figure applies the standard deduction for the filing status you pick. Itemising, credits and dependants are not modelled.
  • Social Security stops at the yearly wage base. Medicare has no cap and includes the additional 0.9 percent above the threshold for your filing status.
  • A pretax retirement contribution lowers income tax but not Social Security or Medicare, because those apply to wages.
  • City, county and school district income taxes are not included anywhere on this site.
  • Oklahoma tax is applied to income after any pretax contribution, with no state standard deduction, exemption or credit, because the data layer does not carry them. A filed return will usually come in lower.

Income tax in Oklahoma

Oklahoma exempts the first $3,750 for a single filer, then runs three rates up to 4.5 percent above $7,200. The bands are so narrow that any full time salary reaches the top rate well before the year is out.

The state cut a quarter point from every rate for 2026 and has written a path toward eliminating the tax altogether, gated on revenue growth. Oklahoma allows a standard deduction matched to the federal one, which this page does not apply, so the state figure in the table overstates a filed return. Local governments here tax sales rather than wages.

Federal tax on an Oklahoma salary is worked out after a standard deduction of $16,100 filing singly or $32,200 filing jointly, so the federal line begins from less income than the state line does. Social Security stops once wages reach $184,500. The per period column divides a settled year by 52, 26, 24, 12, 4 or 1, which is why it never shows the week that Social Security runs out.
